Oh my goodness, it's great to be back doing floral!! It's one of the positive things about being back in my hometown! I mean, it's great being back in good old PG but the main reason we're here is to be close to my family while my other half is overseas, so being busy back at my old job of 3 1/2 years ago makes filling my time easy and fun. I've been back at Sleepy Ridge for almost 3 months, so I've got a lot of portfolio updating to do! My first day back involved cake flowers... and about a dozen of these beauties.. The next wedding we did was a little different, being that you don't see tons of pinecones in summer decor, but the line flowers had a fun woodland feel. I love making bridesmaid bouquets!! And the champagne colored roses added a pretty touch to these... This next wedding was so soft and romantic. With accents of pearls and candles on the tables, it was gorgeous! The next wedding was affectionately called "The Hippie Wedding." Bright colors, with a flower power style. I wish I had be able to get a picture of the tie dye and Mexican blanket decor. This fun piece was done for a photo backdrop. I really had fun doing this piece and I LOVE the ombre. I love when brides have little touches that aren't always seen...the thistle in this wedding was my favorite! Probably because I had it in my wedding ;) I also love floral that uses many different textures. This wedding used astilbe, babies breath, and seeded eucalyptus among others, for some gorgeous variety. This next piece was especially fun for me to do. My grandparents recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and my grandpa asked me to do an arrangement to surprise my grandma! He even came down to pick up the flowers with me. It was so fun to surprise her and be part of such a big milestone for them and my family.
This is part 2 of the WPPI project mentioned in my last post. "Bride and groom" are Lauren Miller and Logan Vickery. Being able to compare all the photographers work and their different points of views of the same set-up is pretty cool. I like to see the different perspectives on angles, lighting, and editing. Check them out! I do want to thank Kelli for thinking of me and inviting me to be part of this awesome event! I had so much fun and met some really great people. Below are some links for some of the other vendors and all the photographers that have posted pictures so far. Enjoy! This conference attracts photographers from all over the world who take classes from photography leaders, learn about new products, and learn how to build their business. I worked with a group of about 20 photographers from all over the country as they put together a photo shoot to go along with everything else they learned at the expo. My husband and I were able to go help set up for the shoot and stick around to watch the magic happen! These are some of my favorite pictures from part 1 of the shoot. Being in the Hospitality Management program at UNLV requires 1000 hours of work experience and a 90 hour internship to graduate. The good thing is that people in the industry know this and they target UNLV students when they are hiring or looking for interns or even seeking volunteers. I have had some amazing experiences because of this that I wouldn't have been part of had I gone to school anywhere else in the world. Last October, I completed my internship requirement by working for the Lili Claire Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises money to help special needs kids and their families. It was incredible to be a part of such a great foundation and work for a cause that has a special place in my heart. We put on the Nevada Wild Fest, the biggest fair and carnival in Nevada. I had the pleasure of working on the "celebrity wrangler" team which means I was in charge of all transportation and lodging of the VIPs (which included country singers and Disney stars) coming in and out of Las Vegas for the Festival. I met some amazing people and had such a good time! I can't wait to help out this year! Because of my connections to UNLV I also had the pleasure of meeting the wedding coordinators at the Venetian and they asked me to help them coordinate some of their weddings on 12/12/12, the biggest wedding day of the year. I helped with a few of the 30+ weddings that took place on property that day which was way crazy but incredibly awesome! I helped with some of the higher end weddings that took place that day and it just reminded me how much I can't wait to get into the industry. Recently a temp agency was specifically seeking floral designers for this season. Of course I jumped at the opportunity. You can't imagine how excited I was to find out my first assignment was with the floral department for MGM Events. MGM Events does all the huge events for all the hotel/casinos owned by MGM which are MGM, Bellagio, Aria, Mandalay Bay, and Mirage (among others). The week after Christmas I helped with floral arrangements for New Year's Eve parties for all the properties. I was assigned to the Bellagio team which meant that on New Years Eve we spent the day on the Bellagio property setting up for the New Years party. This party had more than 200 tables which had 1 of 4 arrangements on each table. I helped with set up and with some of the arrangements. I did a lot of the shorter orchid arrangements and the tall tulip arrangements with hydrangea and tulips at the base which can be seen along with the entire set up of the party. Click the button below to check out this video made of the event! The events were all so amazing with all the product and work that went into it. I am just honored to have played a small part in putting them together. I love living in Las Vegas while I'm going to school for this type of stuff. There's no better place for me right now and I love being involved in all the opportunities that present themselves because of where I am. I can't wait to see what else Las Vegas has to offer me!
Last month, I had the privilege of going to the wedding of my good friends, Jake and Aubre. As amazing as it was to witness their wedding, it was a cherry on top to be asked to design their flowers! Aubre's bouquet consisted of hydrangea (white and green), spider mums (dyed coral), and fern curls. The stems were wrapped in lace, which went along with the vintage theme of the day. Jake's boutonniere was a dahlia with hypericum and a fern curl to match his bride. The bridesmaid's bouquets were made with spidermums and hypericum. The reception was held at Provo Library, which was such a neat place to have it! It was definitely a diy wedding, the bride and groom's family and friends helped make the food and all the diy decorations. It looked so good! I had such a fun time doing this wedding and working with Aubre and all her great ideas! Thanks for letting me be a part of your big day! And a big congratulations! I couldn't be more happy for you guys! I got married on Sept. 30th to my best friend! I designed and did the flowers for my whole wedding. I made my bouquet and all the line flowers and the centerpieces with help from Nannette York, my old boss from Sleepy Ridge, which is, of course, where I had my reception. The centerpieces were groups of random glass bottles that I collected from ebay, a restaurant my sister worked at, antique stores, and even the recyclery, and mason jars. My bouquet was made of Garden roses, tulips, blue thistle, Scabiosa pods, and Queen Anne's Lace. The fathers' boutonniere were made with tulips. Doing my own wedding was so much fun, and I had a lot of help! It definitely helped me understand better the "brides point of view". Watching it all come together was the best part. It was such a beautiful day to start out a wonderful new life! (Pictures courtesy of Angie Maze and Kelli West Photography)
Congratulations to my beautiful friend Amy and her new husband Don! I had the pleasure of doing her flowers for her reception this past week. Their colors were eggplant and sage.
I made these arch pieces for the gazebo that the family stood under for the line. There was a lantern piece on each corner. The outdoor reception was so beautiful with good food, good people, and beautiful flowers. It's so fun to be able to share what I love with my friends and be a part of their very special day. Thanks Amy and Don!
This is the bouquet I made for my own bridals! My fiance is in the Air Force so we included his hat, which made for a cool picture, because it shows both our professions. The bouquet consists of roses, gerbera daises, queen anne's lace (dyed blue), carnations, and blueberries, and pittosporum. When planning my own wedding, I came up with the color scheme of blue and orange. Of course when I told people, including my fiancé and mother-in-law, they said, "Like the Broncos?" No!! So I started telling people it was the colors of blueberries and peaches. Sounds more appealing, right? So soon enough, blueberries and peaches were being incorporated into our wedding decor. This bouquet attests to that. In an effort to get more blue into the bouquet, there are strings of blueberries looping out among the flowers. Photos courtesy of Kelli West Photography
The wedding I did last week was so cute! The colors were purple and green (obviously) but they had some pretty sweet stuff that made it a little different than most. I did all the line flowers and centerpieces. The centerpieces were really fun to do! They were made of 3 different heights of vases. The smallest ones were hypericum, green roses, and button mums. I love when people use fruit in there decor and green apples are really fun. The tallest vases were purple lisianthus, and when we ran out of that we used purple stock. This was the last wedding I got to help with at Sleepy Ridge, besides my own. I've really enjoyed working there and I loved the people I worked with. I learned a ton and I can't wait to take that knowledge with me as I move on to big adventures.
Okay, this wedding wasn't really a circus but the colors reminded me of one. The second I walked in the flower room I got so excited to see all the bright colored flowers. Different is always fun. The colors for this wedding were basically hot pink and orange and I guess the accent colors were blue and purple. I did all the line flowers. One of the bridesmaid bouquets. It consists of pink and orange roses, purple stock, and pitt. This was a really fun wedding to do because it was such fun colors! It's fun to get a little different sometimes and stray away from the classic color schemes.
